Between the Menai Suspension Bridge and Britannia Bridge the Strait twists around rocks and islets, and the currents of the Swellies have caught sailors out for centuries. On a calm day the water looks like glass. Ceffyl Dŵr knows better.

The Swellies are very strong tidal currents with strong flows and whirlpools, and can be very dangerous (Wales Coast Path). Watch from the path: never enter the water. Check Menai Bridge tide times before crossing the causeway to Church Island.
